Packet Injection

This is the capability to push single or collection of pre-formed packets unto the network either  by  a Pen-Tester or  a Malicious attacker. The former does it with permission and intention to test the security posture of a network system while the latter uses it to cause havoc to the system and the Data therein.

Packet spoofing, as it is also called in computer networking, masquerades packets to appear as if they are part of the network normal communication stream.

Malicious code can easily be injected in the browser to cause serious disruption on our computing gadgets. Not all cookies that are useful, so be careful the type of cookies you allow on your browsers. This is one of the forms of threat model that exist in the field of cybersecurity which cyber actors use to spy on their victims

Any network system that is poorly designed or managed will probably be vulnerable to this Packet Injection attacks. The forged packets will find their ways into the network and cause damages that can lead to Data corruption, exfiltration and alteration,  Dos/DDos attacks, SSID (Service Set Identifier) password hack etc.

With implementation of IDS (intrusion Detection System) on the network you may only be alerted when such abnormal packets are detected in the network  communication stream. However, when a network is optimally designed with IPS (Intrusion Detection System), the forged packets can be detected and prevented from passing through the system communication stream.
