Attack Surface

Attack Surface of any system, person or process refers level of exposure or probability of experiencing cyber-attack on the subject. One of major avenue of increasing attack surface is surfing of the internet with poor security posture.

An attack surface refers to the sum of all potential vulnerabilities and entry points that an attacker can exploit to gain unauthorized access to an organization’s systems, data, or networks.

It includes network ports, services, applications, user accounts, and hardware components that are exposed to potential threats. The attack surface is constantly evolving as new technologies, devices, and connections are added, creating new vulnerabilities and expanding the potential attack vectors.

Reducing the attack surface is crucial to improving cybersecurity posture. This can be achieved by implementing security measures such as patch management, vulnerability scanning, access controls, and network segmentation.

By minimizing the attack surface, organizations can significantly reduce the risk of cyber attacks and protect their sensitive assets from exploitation.
