Network Monitoring

Network monitoring systems involve use of software or hardware or both tools to track various aspects of a network , its operation and resource utilization, e.g. traffic, bandwidth utilization and uptime.

Real-time system monitoring provides network administrators with the important information to determine whether their system is under attack or performing as intended. Detail analysis of network activities using requisite network monitoring tools like Wireshark, IP-Scanners etc. provide a proactive platform to identify system compromises, optimize efficiency and proffer possible upgrades for contemporary security posture.

Most devices, especially Mobile gadgets have network activities logs that can give you idea of which applications and processes that consume bulk of your data and resources.  So, if such applications are not what give value, you can decide to block or turn them off.  In addition, the activity log analysis can reveal installation of malicious software which you never opted for. In that case proper remediation / disinfection needs to be done as soon as possible.

Key merits of network monitoring

Types of network monitoring protocols

SNMP: The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used to check the status of many types of devices, from switches to printers.

ICMP:Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is used to send IP-operations information and to generate error messages in the event of device failures.

Constantly Monitor your systems and log files to assess your security posture.
