Privacy Settings:
Every individual desire is to keep personal information within his or her chosen boundary or social circle. However, with the increasing dependence on the contemporary technology – Internet, one will wonder if such is still achievable.
Reason being that those things we do not want to share outside our circle somehow sometimes escape out of our control either through ignorance, security breaches or device misconfiguration.
Take for instance you are setting up your newly bought mobile devices or computer. The manufacture can put some default clauses in the Terms and Condition concerning the use of the devices with its associated software. Due to our impatience to read the “Lengthy and Tiny Characters” called “Terms and Conditions” and modify the optional default settings to suit our desired need, we easily click accept whereas the conditions may legally authorize the company to collect the user’s personal information.
While many may think that their information are still within their controls, they may not know that it is already in the cloud where the data have been collected and stored for possible analysis and marketing purposes. DATA today is often referred as the new Oil. As trivial as this may look, data collected legally and illegally from over 6billion people accounts for what is now known as Big Data in study of Data Science and Analysis.
It is recommended that we limit or rather check what we agree to when setting up our internet connected devices and turn off some optional permissions that may collect our data or sending them to any third party without our knowledge.
Every application that is not needed in our gadgets ought to be deactivated for security and privacy reasons because they can serve as an entry point for malware attacks since they are basically not being used.
