Vishing

Vishing is voice version of phishing attack. A scam method where malicious actors trick victims into revealing sensitive information during phone calls.

It is normally carried out by impersonating trusted authorities like Banks, IT support department and the likes. This is followed by creating sense of urgency, on important issue that the victim needed to act on to avoid problems claiming that urgent action is need to avoid things like account suspension or deletion or even money transfer.

When the victim is fully convinced to take action on the generated fake issues, this could lead to revealing of sensitive information such as passwords, and financial data to the attacker.

Prevention:

It is good to always verify caller identity: you can reconfirm their claims by calling official line(s) of the supposed department or institution before proceeding further with the issue raised.

Do not entertain or rather be cautious of unsolicited calls asking for sensitive information.

Never reveal passwords or financial information over the phone unless you are sure the caller is legitimate

Finally, report suspicious calls to your institution or appropriate authorities

Stay vigilant, protect your voice, protect your data!
